Five_Pounder Well we've pulled some more stuff out of our garden. Check out the whole list of produce we grown here. Best thing we've grown so far, a 5 lb 3.5 oz zucchini shaped like a club. Amanda has baked with some of the zucchinis, but probably have 8 lbs of zucchini in the fridge. What to do, what to do?

2010 Garden Harvest

I have added a static page on the site of my harvest for 2010. Check back to see what else I've managed to grow. This year is turning out to be a great year for a vegetable garden. I haven't had to water once, and the garden is growing fast and thick. The old garden is not doing as well, it's been staying too wet and the plants are not able to stand, and some are even rotting a bit. That highlights the point I made before about raised bed gardens being superior in some ways.

  • 2 Giant Zucchini
  • 5 Cucumbers
  • Beans
  • Peas
  • Carrots
  • 5 Onions
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • 1 Purple Pepper
  • Swiss Chard
  • Arugula

Though because we were on holidays the Swiss Chard and Arugula were over done and hit the composter. The peas were a bit old as well. Other than that, the rest of the produce was quite nice. I'm still waiting on our tomato crop, and it looks like we have a couple of melons on the way as well.

Aug 21st, 2010:

  • 2 Zucchini
  • 9 Purple Peppers
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • A Few Peas
I pulled up the peas and beans because they were done producing. The tomatoes needed a lot of taming. I trimmed back a lot of the plant, tied up vines so that the tomatoes weren't hanging in the dirt. The beans and peas were fighting for space with the tomatoes, and because they didn't have enough space, some of the plant was starting to rot. I think the rotting smell was bringing in flies, and they were eating up some of the tomatoes as well. Now that I have things cleaned up I'm hoping to get a bunch of tomatoes over the next few weeks.

Aug 22st Through Sept 11, 2010:

  • 6 or so Yellow Tomatoes
  • Carrots as needed
Nothing of note taken from the garden, just a few carrots here and there when we needed them, and some yellow tomatoes as they became ripe.

Sept 12, 2010

  • 3 Cucumbers
  • 2 Zuchinni
  • Large bunch of carrots (no more left)
